Brian ConawayThe College of Wooster’s Brendan Callahan (S. Glastonbury, Conn. / Glastonbury) and Brian Conaway (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) were selected as North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for men’s cross country and men’s soccer, respectively, announced the league office on Monday.

Callahan, who was the NCAC Runner of the Week on Sept. 16 as well, making him a rare repeat winner of the weekly honor, finished fifth out of 127 NCAA Div. III runners at the All-Ohio Championships on Oct. 10. He covered the 8K course, located at the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, in 27:10.2, while also placing 40th across all divisions (243 individual competitors) in the meet that brings together 37 schools — NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, and NAIA — from across the Buckeye State.

Conaway, the 2002 NCAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the Scots to an overtime victory in their lone match of the week, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 decision over Denison University, which at the time was ranked No. 2 in the Div. III coaches’ poll. It marked the sophomore forward’s third goal this fall and 13th of his career, as he boosted Wooster’s record to 6-2-3 overall and 3-1-0 in the NCAC.

The Scots’ cross country and men’s soccer teams continue action this week, as the harriers will compete at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 18) and the booters will play a Wednesday night match (Oct. 15) at No. 6 Ohio Wesleyan University and then host Earlham College on Saturday.
