Scots Rout W&J in Men's Lacrosse 25-3

» Box Score

The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team unleashed a scoring barrage in Washington, Pa., on Wednesday (April 16), as it easily defeated Washington & Jefferson College 25-3, led by freshman attacker Shawn Handy's eight points coming on four goals and four assists.

The outcome of the non-conference contest was never in doubt.

Wooster (6-4), which beat Washington & Jefferson 28-1 last year, controlled the action from the outset, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first quarter and adding seven unanswered scores in the second to take a commanding 15-1 advantage into the break.

Joining Handy with big games for the Scots were junior Andrew Fletcher, who scored on all three shots that he took and also assisted on two other goals, and classmate Tom Canfield, who had three goals. Others finding the back of the net multiple times were senior Colin Hartnett (two goals and two assists), freshman Andrew Boylan (two goals), and junior Mike MacMaster (two goals).

The Presidents (3-7) were paced by a two-goal effort from Doug Lash.

The freshmen trio of Courter Shimeall, Jon Baker, and Chris Riesback combined for five saves in net to preserve the win.

On Saturday (April 19), Wooster will return to Pennsylvania, where it will take on Mercyhurst College (9-1), with opening face-off at 1 p.m.
