Scots Drop Season-Opener to RMC 9-6A second-half comeback fell short for The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team in its season-opener on Sunday afternoon (March 9), as host Randolph-Macon College held off Wooster 9-6 in Ashland, Va. After a slow start, the Scots outscored Randolph-Macon 4-2 in the third quarter to pull within 8-6. But, the Yellow Jackets' defense shutout Wooster in the fourth, facing eight shots from its visitors. Five different players scored for the Scots, including two from the stick of freshman Joe Costello. Recording single-goals were junior Steve Burton and first-years Eric McKinney, Alex Morriss, and Austin Taylor, while junior Mike MacMaster registered the lone assist for Wooster. Randolph-Macon's Steve Fuller had a game-high three goals and Brad Koehler scored twice while assisting on two others. In net, the Scots' Courter Shimeall made eight saves in his collegiate debut, while F.J. Federico had 13 saves for the Yellow Jackets before being pulled with a minute left. Wooster will try and get into the win column this weekend (March 15-16), when it travels south again to Guilford College's tournament in Greensboro, N.C. |
