Balanced Attack Leads Scots Past Oberlin

» Box Score

Ten College of Wooster players got into the scoring column Wednesday (April 2) during the squad's 15-2 rout of Oberlin College in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Wooster, now winners of nine-straight in the all-time series with Oberlin, improves to 4-3 overall and evens its NCAC slate to 1-1, while the Yeomen fall to 1-5 and 0-3 in the league.

Freshman Shawn Handy tallied a team-leading five points - four on assists - while fellow newcomer Eric McKinney scored four of the Scots' 15 goals. McKinney did his damage on just six shots taken.

Producing two goals each in the win were senior Colin Hartnett, junior Mike MacMaster, and freshman Joe Costello. Costello contributed an assist for three points, the same total as classmate Austin Taylor, who totaled his on one goal and two helpers.

Rounding out the scoring for Wooster were junior Steve Burton and freshman Peter Park, who each posted one goal and one assist, and junior Tom Canfield's one goal.

The Yeomen were held to only a few offensive opportunities. In fact, Scot goalie Courter Shimeall did not have to make a save over the first three quarters to preserve the victory.

Wooster has the weekend off, but is gearing up for its home debut next Tuesday (April 8) against nationally-ranked (No. 14 in USILA) and NCAC leader Ohio Wesleyan University (4-1, 1-0 NCAC).
