Mark Weschler

Mark Weschler grabbed the third all-conference citation of his career.

WOOSTER, Ohio - A quartet of College of Wooster men’s lacrosse players was honored with all-North Coast Athletic Conference laurels, highlighted by junior attacker Mark Weschler (Silver Spring, Md./ Our Lady of Good Counsel), who earned his second All-NCAC Second Team selection, and third all-conference nod of his career, announced the NCAC office Wednesday.

In addition to Weschler, sophomore midfielder Pat Coyne (Chatham, N.J. /Chatham) and sophomore defender Ryan Story (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Mt. Lebanon) also garnered second-team honors, while senior goalkeeper Matt Biester (Wallingford, Pa./ Strath Haven) was selected to the All-NCAC honorable mention squad.

Weschler, who picked up second-team laurels in 2006 and an honorable mention certificate in 2007, paced a Scot offensive by collecting team-highs in goals (35) and points (50), adding on 15 assists for 3.57 points per game, the fourth-highest mark in the NCAC. Additionally, Weschler collected 21 groundballs and scored four man-up goals during 2008. Over his three-year career, he has tallied 93 goals and tacked on 41 assists, and needs just seven goals next season to become just the fifth to post 100 goals for his career.

Coyne secured a second all-NCAC honor (honorable mention in 2007). He was the third-leading scoring for the Wooster attack with 35 points on 17 goals, including four man-up tallies, and a team-high 18 assists. For his career, Coyne, a midfielder who has seen action in every contest in his two seasons with eight starts this spring, has accumulated 49 points via 26 goals and 23 assists along with 32 groundballs.

A first-time recipient, Story started all 14 contests on a Wooster defensive unit that limited opponents to just 6.36 goals per game. He also grabbed 27 groundballs, and committed just four penalties in 14 games played this spring.

Biester was very solid in goal for Wooster, appearing in 13 contests with 12 starting nods. Between the pipes, he ranked second in the conference with his .578 save percentage and 7.28 goals against average. A 2006 honorable mention all-conference honoree, Biester was a starter his final three seasons in a Scot uniform, racked up 36 starts in 41 career games, logging over 1948 minutes of action with 244 goals allowed and 346 saves for a .586 career save percentage.

The Scots wound up with an 11-3 overall record this season, giving them their first 10-win season since 1996 and marked Wooster’s fifth winning campaign in the last six seasons. In NCAC action, Wooster was 2-3 for a fourth-place finish.
