Scots at MSJ Wednesday Before Embarking on Spring Break Trip
Having won its season opener, The College of Wooster hopes to move to 2-0 this Wednesday, March 5, when the Fighting Scots travel to southwest Ohio for a non-conference affair with the College of Mount St. Joseph (1-0). Mount St. Joseph is in its second year as a varsity program. The two teams also met last season, with Wooster prevailing relatively easily, 13-5. Opening face-off is set for 6 p.m. Also this week, the Scots will begin their spring break trip to the east, including a game on Sunday, March 9, at traditional power Widener University (1-1) at 1 p.m. Widener has reached the NCAA Div. III Tournament six times in the last eight years. Last Week: Wooster was victorious in its 2008 debut. On March 1, the Scots cruised past Hendrix College, a first-year varsity program, by a 22-1 count, marking Wooster’s third-straight season-opening win. The match-up took place at a neutral site, Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The Scots utilized an eight-goal burst in the second quarter for a 13-1 halftime lead and added six more in the third during the rout. Leading the way were junior Mark Weschler (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel) and freshman Matt Pullara (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe), as they scored five and four goals, respectively. Pullara also was a perfect 13-for-13 in face-off opportunities in his collegiate debut. Additionally, junior Tim Lee (Orion, Mich. / Detroit Jesuit) contributed a hat trick and sophomore Pat Coyne (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) scored once and passed out a team-high two assists. On defense, Wooster limited Hendrix to just one shot – a first-quarter goal. |
