Chapman Leads Scots' Four All-NCAC Selections
Four College of Wooster men’s lacrosse players were tabbed with all-North Coast Athletic Conference laurels, highlighted by senior defender Adam Chapman (Denver, Colo. / Kent Denver School) earning a spot on the all-league first team, announced the NCAC office Tuesday. In addition to Chapman, senior attacker Hisham Hassan (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) garnered second-team honors, while sophomore attacker Mark Weschler (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel) and freshman midfielder Pat Coyne (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) were both selected honorable mention on the All-NCAC Team. Chapman, who finishes his career with five all-conference certificates after being first-team (2005) and second-team (2004) previously in lacrosse as well as first-team (2006) and honorable mention (2005) in soccer, anchored a Scot defensive unit that held opponents to 7.58 goals per outing. Statistically, the speedy Chapman collected 23 groundballs and scored his third career goal during 2007, and was whistled for just one penalty over 11 games played. Hassan secured a second all-NCAC honor (first-team in 2006). He led the Wooster attack with 36 points on 18 goals and 18 assists, ranking fifth in the league scoring race (3.27 ppg). Seventeen of Hassan’s points (9 goals, 8 assists) as well as 11 of his 26 groundballs on the season came during NCAC games. For his career, Hassan, a two-year starter on the attack line, racked up 114 points via 69 goals and 45 assists, finishing just outside the top-10 in school history in all three categories. Weschler is now a two-time all-conference player in as many seasons (second-team in 2006). He was the squad’s top scorer most of the spring before finishing just behind Hassan with 33 points, netting 24 goals and assisting on nine others, to go along with 17 groundballs. In just two years, Weschler has accumulated 84 points (58 goals, 26 assists), which puts him on pace to end up as Wooster’s sixth-leading scorer. Coyne made an immediate impact, appearing in every game while serving as a steady contributor on both ends of the field. As a scoring option, he ranked fifth on the team with 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists), and defensively, he helped limit the opposition to six or less goals in eight of 12 games. In addition, Coyne scooped up 14 groundballs. The Scots wound up with an 8-4 overall record this season, marking their fourth winning campaign over a five-year stretch. In NCAC action, Wooster was 2-3 for a fourth-place finish. |
