After playing six of its first eight games on the road, The College of Wooster men’s lacrosse team will close the regular season with four home affairs, including two this weekend. On Saturday, April 21, the Fighting Scots will welcome North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College (8-1, 1-1 NCAC) to John P. Papp Stadium for a key match-up, starting at 1 p.m. Please note that is a change from the original schedule which had the squads’ playing Friday night at Maurer Field. The game will mark the 53rd meeting between the two, with the Lords leading the series 29-23, including an 11-2 defeat of Wooster last year in a game that determined third-place in the NCAC. The Scots will be back in action less than 24 hours later when Colorado College (3-4) invades Papp Stadium Sunday, April 22. The non-league will start at 11:30 a.m., also a change from the original schedule. The Tigers, winners of seven of 10 meetings with Wooster all-time, were thrashed 21-5 by the Scots last season.

Last Week: Wooster split a pair of contests, snapping a three-game win streak in the process, to move to 6-2 overall on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
On April 11, the Scots scored nine unanswered goals, including six during the third quarter alone, breezing past non-leauge foe Washington & Jefferson College 12-3 under the lights at Wooster High School. After the first half, Wooster was only ahead 4-2, but took the momentum into intermission, thanks to a Chris Vaccaro (Plano, Texas / Plano) goal with just 1:04 remaining. In the third periord, Hisham Hassan (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) scored just 52 seconds in and Vaccaro followed about three minutes later, giving the Scots a four-goal lead. Then, midway through the quarter, the Scots exploded for a three-goal outburst in just 2:19, with Mark Weschler (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel), Cole Simmons (Calabasas, Calif. / Chaminade College Prep), and Chris Gatsch (Princeton, N.J. / Blair Academy) finding the back of the net to seal the victory. Leading Wooster was Weschler with six points coming on three goals and three assists, while Vaccaro finished with four goals and Gatsch with three. Other multi-point scorers were Hassan with one goal and two assists and Pat Coyne (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) with two assists. Defensively, goalkeeper Matt Biester (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) tallied three saves before giving way to his back-up for the final 9:00.
On April 14, host and preseason NCAC favorite Denison University was leading by just two goals after two quarters and then blew open a tight game, outscoring the Scots 13-2 to secure an 18-5 win. Accounting for Wooster’s goals were Chris Curran (South Portland, Maine / North Yarmouth Acad.), Gatsch, Hassan, Vaccaro, and Weschler. Biester recorded nine saves, including four during the second quarter to keep his team within striking distance.
