Head Coach Jason Tarnow
Jason Tarnow directed one of the quickest and more remarkable turnarounds in college lacrosse, transforming a once-moribund Wooster program into a conference-championship team in just three years. Now in his eighth season, Tarnow looks to maintain the Fighting Scots’ new reputation as a regular contender in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while striving for a top-20 national ranking. Tarnow owns a career record of 56-38 (.596), which puts him just five victories shy of becoming the winningest men’s lacrosse coach in Wooster history. That includes an 11-3 mark in 2008 – the most wins in a season for the Scots since 1991 (12-4). He took over a program in July 2001 that was coming off of its fifth consecutive losing season and Wooster has not finished below .500 since. Tarnow immediately brought in two large recruiting classes, which formed the foundation of the 2004 team that won a share of the NCAC title and earned a bid to the NCAA Div. III Tournament, both firsts in school history. He was selected as the NCAC Coach of the Year that season. Tarnow came to Wooster after two stints as an assistant coach, including a stretch at NCAA Div. I Butler University, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to five victories during the 2000 campaign. As a player, Tarnow was a two-time All-American at goalie for Salisbury State University. Noteworthy, he was voted Most Valuable Player of the Seagulls’ national championship team in 1999 and ranks sixth all-time in saves at the school. After graduation, he served as an assistant at his alma mater and aided in leading Salisbury State back to the national championship game in 2000. |
