NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — The College of Wooster, which was ranked as the number-two team in Division III men’s basketball for the second-straight week by d3hoops.com, got a career-high 29 points from junior Antwyan Reynolds (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield Senior) en route to an 88-75 win over Westminster (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Scots' overall record to 7-0, marking the first time Wooster has opened a season with seven-straight wins since it accomplished the same feat during the 1950-51 season. Westminster (Pa.), which moved to NCAA Division III competition this season after being in an NAIA program a year ago, fell to 6-3 overall.

Reynolds, who was 10-of-17 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line, easily surpassed his previous career-high of 22 points, set against Wittenberg last season.

After falling behind 2-0 to start the game, Wooster never trailed thereafter. The Scots led 27-25 with 7:03 to play in the first half when they went on a 12-4 run to open up a 39-29 lead. Wooster eventually took a 43-34 lead into halftime.

The Titans quickly cut into the Scots' lead in the second half, as they scored seven of the first nine points to close within four (45-41) with 16:20 to play. But Wooster responded immediately by scoring the next six points to open up a 10-point advantage (51-41) with 13:42 left.

The Titans trimmed the lead to five points (60-55) with eight minutes to play, but never got closer thereafter. Over the last two minutes, the Scots made 13-of-14 free-throw attempts. For the game, Wooster was 19-of-21 from the foul line.

Joining Reynolds in double figures for the Scots were sophomores Matt Smith (Elida, Ohio / Elida) and Bryan Nelson (Kettering, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont). Smith broke out of a recent scoring slump by matching his career-high of 20 points. He was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range. Nelson recorded his third double-double of the season by collecting 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Leading the way for Westminster were Andy Wormsley and Chad Phillips, who scored 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Statistically, Wooster shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field and outrebounded the Titans 44-29.

The Scots do not play for over a week, when they travel to Hiram on Sunday, Dec. 17, for a North Coast Athletic Conference game.
