Wooster Downs Earlham in Conference Opener
RICHMOND, Ind. - The College of Wooster men's basketball team outscored host Earlham 50-27 in the second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit and give the Scots a victory in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener. Wooster (5-1/1-0) trailed 30-29 at the break, but went on a 21-8 run to open the second half to seize control of the contest. The Scots led 29-14 with 5:36 to play in the first half when the Quakers went on a 16-0 run to end the half the one-point lead. Wooster, which shot only 34 percent (11-of-32) in the first half, shot a torrid 65 percent (17-of-26) in the second half, while hitting 13-of-14 from the foul line. Earlham (0-6/0-2), on the other hand, shot poorly the entire game, shooting 8-of-26 from the field in each half. Senior John Ellenwood (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania) had a big game for the Scots, finishing with 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists in just 26 minutes of action. Frontcourt mate Bryan Nelson (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) also played well, collecting 16 points and nine rebounds. Junior Steve Thompson (Orrville, Ohio/Rittman) had eight points and six steals, which is just one shy of the school record. Freshman Nathan Stoops was the only Quaker to finish in double figures, as he scored 15 points. Tony Suttle had a game-high 12 rebounds. |
