Wooster Defeats Case Reserve in Opener

WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's basketball opened the season with a 76-61 victory over Case Western Reserve Friday night at Timken Gymnasium in the first round of the Al Van Wie Rotory Classic.

With the win, the Scots ran their home winning streak to 18 games and notched their 21st consecutive victory over the Spartans.

Four players finished in double figures for Wooster, led by sophomore Antwyan Reynolds (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield), who scored 12 points. Reynolds also had a game-high four steals. Scoring 11 points in his first collegiate game was Ryan Snyder (Sebring, Ohio/McKinley), who was a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range.

In the paint, senior John Ellenwood (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) and freshman Bryan Nelson (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) each finished with 10 points. Ellenwood was 5-of-8 from the field, while Nelson was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Junior Brian Perse and freshman John Link each scored a game-high 14 points for Case Western Reserve, while junior Kevin Von Handorf added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Scots shot 53 percent (32-of-61) from the field while holding the Spartans to 33 percent shooting (19-of-57). Wooster also outrebounded Case Western Reserve 43-34.

Wooster now faces DePauw in the championship game Saturday (Nov. 20) at 6 p.m. after the Tigers defeated Alfred 66-45 in the other first round game Friday night. The Spartans will face Alfred in the consolation game at 4 p.m.
