The College of Wooster closed the fall golf season with its best finish to date, placing sixth overall at the 12-team DePauw Small College Classic, which was held at the par-71, 6700-yard Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind., Saturday and Sunday.

Over the first 18 holes, all four Wooster scorers were in the 70s as part of a 306 team total, putting the Fighting Scots in third, only behind Otterbein College (302) and DePauw University (303). Wooster slipped slightly on day two, tallying a 322 for a final mark of 628, while the host Tigers pulled away for the championship with a 591.

Noteworthy, the Scots were 14 strokes better than fellow North Coast Athletic Conference school Wabash College (642). Wabash had finished ahead of Wooster in two previous fall events.

Individually, Wooster was led again by freshman Michael Peters, who turned in consistent rounds of 77 and 78 for a tie for 16th-place (155). Peters was the only Scot in the 70s on Sunday.

Sophomore Kevin Truitt posted the squad’s low score of the weekend with a 75 and followed that up with an 82, while tying for 21st (157). First-year teammates Greg Benckart and Blake Sword were both one stroke (158), with Benckart firing a 76 and 82 and Sword a 78 and 80, good for a 28th-place tie.

Also for Wooster, senior Sean Glaser was in the starting lineup. He came in 65th (173).
