Scots Finish in Middle of Pack at Tiger Invitational
The College of Wooster golf team wrapped up its second fall tourney this past weekend (Sept. 23-24) by finishing in the middle of the pack at the Wittenberg Tiger Invitational held in Springfield, Ohio. Day one saw the Fighting Scots play 18 holes on the 6,822-yard, par-71 Windy Knoll Golf Course, while the second round of competition was held at the 6,838-yard, par-72 Reid Park Golf Course North. Wooster placed 9th (641) out of the 15-team field, carding a 313 at Windy Knoll and a 328 at the Reid Park Course, while North Coast Athletic Conference rival Allegheny College (577) beat out runner-up Otterbein College (585) by eight strokes to capture the team title. Rounding out the top-eight were Ohio Wesleyan University (607), Baldwin-Wallace College (613), John Carroll University (625), Denison University (625), Wittenberg University (628), and Centre College (628). Chris Moore (64-72=136) of Allegheny claimed individual honors after beating Andy Miller (63-73=136) of Otterbein in a sudden death playoff. Individually for Wooster, sophomore Patrick Lynch shot rounds of 74 and 81 for a two-day total of 155 to tie for 27th overall. Junior Brandon Tylka (81-79=160), and sophomores Jim Ipema (80-82=162) and Jason Greenwald (78-86=164) tied for 44th, 51st, and 57th, respectively, while second-year Erik Shoger rounded out the starting five by carding a 171 (84-87) over the two-day event. Competition continues this weekend for the Scots as they travel to Alliance, Ohio, on Sept. 25-26, to take part in the Mt. Union Invitational to be held at the Tannenhauf Golf and Alliance Country Clubs. |
