Van Horn’s 69 Helps Scots to Eighth-Place Finish at Muskingum
The College of Wooster completed its third tournament of the fall on Monday (Sept. 26) by placing 10th at the Mt. Union Fall Golf Invitational held in Alliance, Ohio. The Fighting Scots shot a round of 314 on the 6,694 yard, par-72 Tannenhauf Golf Course on Sunday, and then followed that the next day by duplicating their score on the 6,411, par-70 course at the Alliance Country Club. Wooster junior Matt Mellott nearly cracked the top-20, finishing with a 10-over 152 (74-78) to tie for 21st overall. Sophomore Jim Ipema carded back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish in a tie for 32nd (154), while junior Brandon Tylka bounced back from an 84 on day one to shoot a four-over 74 to finish in a tie for 45th (158). Rounding out the Scot starting lineup were senior Mike Becker and freshman Sean Glaser with 82-85=167 and 81-89=170, respectively. Otterbein College dominated the field over the two days with a total score of 566 (285-281), taking home the team title by 25 strokes over Terra Community College, as well claiming each of the top-three individual positions with Zach Sebert leading the way with a four-under 138 (68-70). The Scots wrap up their fall season this weekend (Oct. 1-2) at the Denison Fall Invitational hosted by Denison University at the par-71, 6,559-yard Granville Golf Course. |
