Tylka Finishes Among Top-10 as Scots Tie for Third at Kenyon
The College of Wooster shaved six strokes off its first round score on Sunday to tie for third-place with the host school at the 12-team Kenyon Invitational this weekend (April 1-2). After having to count three of its four scores 82 or above during the first 18 holes as part of a 327 total, Wooster only needed to count one more than 82 en route to a two-day score of 648, finishing only behind Ohio Dominican University (602) and Muskingum College (619). Individually, senior Brandon Tylka was low-man for the Fighting Scots, as he tied for ninth overall out of 66 golfers with back-to-back 78s (156) at the par-72, 6931-yard Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio. Wooster’s No. 1, junior Andy Van Horn, uncharacteristically struggled on Saturday with an 83, but came back for a 79 to tie for 21st-place (162), while tying for 28th (165) were sophomore teammates Jason Greenwald (82-83) and Pat Lynch (84-81). Also in the starting lineup was junior Matt Mellott, who tied for 34th-place (84-83=167). Four other Scots competed as individuals, with sophomores Erik Shoger and Jim Ipema each placing among the top-20, carding 79-80=159 (tie for 15th-place) and 79-82=161 (tie for 19th-place), respectively. Wooster’s spring schedule continues this Saturday and Sunday (April 8-9) with Denison University’s Ted Barclay Invitational. |
