The College of Wooster men's golf team closed out its fall season at the Denison Fall Classic hosted by Denison University at the Granville Golf Course in Granville, Ohio, on Oct. 1-2. The Fighting Scots finished 13th out of 15 teams at the event, carding a two-day total of 644 (317-327) on the 6,559-yard, par-71 course. Heading into the final day of competition, Otterbein College (282) held just a six-stroke lead over Ohio Wesleyan University (288), but the Cardinals easily outdistanced the field by 19 strokes on the final day to take the team title with a score of 557 (282-275). Junior Brandon Tylka was the only Wooster player to post two rounds in the 70s, carding a 77 on day one and a team-best 76 on day two to tie for 38th overall (154). Sophomores Jason Greenwald and Patrick Lynch followed Tylka with scores of 161 (80-81) and 165 (79-86) to tie for 65th and 72nd, respectively, while junior Matt Mellott finished in a tie for 76th after shooting rounds of 82 and 85. Jim Ipema rounded out the starting lineup with a 173 (79-94) to place all alone in 83rd. Tylka posted the lowest scoring average this fall with a 78.7 over six full rounds of play, while Mellott was the only other Scot under 80 with a 79.8 over four rounds.
