Led by Michael Tilden’s medalist performance, The College of Wooster golf team nearly won the first tournament it played in 2004-05, finishing as the runner-up at Wittenberg University’s Fall Invitational this past weekend (Sept. 18-19). In fact, the Scots were just one stroke (631) off of Wittenberg’s pace (630), as the two North Coast Athletic Conference rivals took 1-2 in the 11-team field.

Wooster shot a 325 on the first day at the par-71, 6,822-yard Windy Knoll Golf Course in Springfield, Ohio, but bounced back to fire a 306 Sunday at Reid Park Golf Course, a par-72, 6,838-yard facility. Other noteworthy scores in the field included third-place Muskingum College (635) and fourth-place Baldwin-Wallace College (636), while the next closest team was 20 shots behind.

Individually, Tilden won by two strokes after shooting a 77 on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday, marking the senior’s second medalist honor of his career. Also scoring for the Scots on each day were junior Brandon Tylka, who tied for fourth (79-76=155) in the 57-man field, sophomore Andy Van Horn, who tied for eighth (83-73=156), and senior Tyler Scott, who came in a tie for 33rd-place (86-83=169).

Wooster continues its fall season this weekend (Sept. 25-26) at the Denison University Fall Invitational.
