Scots Wrap Up 2004-05 Season With Fifth-Place Finish at NCAC Championships
The College of Wooster shaved six strokes off of its opening round to move up one spot into fifth-place during the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championships, as the Scots closed their 2004-05 campaign one place higher in the league standings than last season. After carding a 28-over-par 316 over Friday's 18 holes on the unfamiliar par-72, 6,820-yard Harrison Hills Golf Club in Attica, Ind., Wooster put together a 22-over round for a 626 total to pass up host Wabash College (638). Ohio Wesleyan University (601) edged Allegheny College (606) for the team championship, while Denison University (615) and Wittenberg University (622) finished just ahead of the Scots. Rounding out the team results were Hiram College (681), Oberlin College (701), and Kenyon College (708). Individually, Wooster's No. 1 golfer, senior Michael Tilden, struggled on day one with an 80, but bounced back for a 75 to tie for 13th at an 11-over-par 155. Just about matching him stroke-for-stroke was junior teammate Brandon Tylka, as he also tied for 13th overall (78-77=155). Tyler Scott closed out his career with a tie for 16th-place after turning in rounds of 78 and 80 for a 158, while Scot sophomore Andy Van Horn also tied for 16th (80-78=158). Wooster's other competitor was sophomore Matt Mellott, who shot 80 and 83 en route to finishing alone in 26th-place (163). |
