The College of Wooster golf team finished tied for third out of 10 teams at the Purple Raider Fall Invitational, hosted by Mt. Union College and held Sunday, Oct. 3, and Monday, Oct. 4. Round one took place at the Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance, Ohio, while round two featured the golf course at the Alliance Country Club.

The Scots finished with a total score of 618, recording rounds of 306 on Sunday and 312 on Monday. Walsh University, which posted the only sub-300 round of the event on Sunday, also finished with 618. John Carroll University won both the individual and team titles, as Mike Coyne carded rounds of 75 and 73 to pace the Blue Streaks who finished the event with 609 total strokes.

The Scots placed four golfers in the top-25, led by Andy Van Horn. The sophomore recorded two sub-80 rounds (75+79=154) and finished in 12th overall. Seniors Joe Punturi and Michael Tilden placed right behind Van Horn in a five-way tie for 13th with a total score of 155. Punturi recorded the best score of the two-day event by a Scot, scoring a 74 on day one and followed the next day with an 81. Tilden recorded two sub-80 rounds as well, finishing with 76 and 79 on Sunday and Monday, respectively. Brandon Tylka came in a tie for 18th (81+76=157), after posting the lowest score by a Scot on day two. Jim Ipema finished tied for 34th (85+78=163) to round out Wooster's starting lineup.

The Scots will play their last fall tournament on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 10-11) at the DePauw University Small College Classic held at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind.
