Andy Van Horn earned his second-straight top-10 finish, leading The College of Wooster golfers to a tie for seventh-place at the 14-team Denison University Fall Classic this past weekend (Sept. 25-26), which took place at the par-71, 6,559-yard Granville Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.

Van Horn carded a one-over on Sunday to tie for 10th (77-72=149) in the field of 88. In similar fashion, Wooster, as a team, improved 15 strokes during the second round to move from 11th-place into a tie for seventh (318-303=621) with John Carroll University (306-315=621). With back-to-back rounds under 300, Otterbein College won the team championship (296-299=595).

Also finishing in the 70s each day for the Scots was senior Michael Tilden, who tied for 30th overall (78-76=154). Rounding out Wooster’s starting lineup were junior Brandon Tylka, who entered the clubhouse with an impressive two-over Sunday to tie for 43rd (86-73=159), senior Joe Punturi, who tied for 60th (82-82=164), and freshman Eric Shoger, who shot 81-85=166 in his debut as a starter.

The Scots will next be in action at the Mt. Union College Fall Invitational, which will be held at two different courses in Alliance, Ohio, on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 3-4).
