Without one of its top-three players in the lineup, The College of Wooster golf team struggled to a season-low, ninth-place showing at the 16-team Ohio Wesleyan University Strimer Invitational this past weekend (April 24-25). Ohio Wesleyan won its own event, which was played on two different courses, with the first 18 holes at Dornoch Golf Club and Sunday’s round at Oakhaven Golf Club.

As a team, the Scots shot consistent scores of 321-320=641, 38 strokes off of Ohio Wesleyan’s pace (297-306=603). Otterbein College was runner-up (310-307=617), also well behind the Battling Bishops.

Leading Wooster were Andy Van Horn and Michael Tilden, however, its third player averaging under 80 (Joe Punturi) was not available for the weekend. Van Horn tied for 13th overall (74-80=154) out of the field of 95 individuals and Tilden tied for 23rd (77-79=156), while Paul Hiller and Chris Billow were the Scots’ other scorers, tying for 55th (84-81=165) and 60th (86-80=166), respectively.

Wooster will wrap up its spring season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, also hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. All 36 holes will take place at Dornoch Golf Club, on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1.
