Junior Joe Punturi shot rounds of 74 and 75, but the rest of his College of Wooster golf teammates did not fare as well at the Muskingum College Fall Invitational this past weekend (Sept. 19-20), as Wooster placed seventh in a highly-competitive eight-team field.

Overall, the Scots turned in rounds of 315 and 309 for a 624 total at the par-70, 6,049-yard Cambridge Country Club in Cambridge, Ohio.

Otterbein College, John Carroll University, and Muskingum College all shot under 600 and finished first (578), second (592), and third (598), respectively. Otterbein’s Matt Cooperrider took medalist honors with 73-69=142.

While Punturi tied for 11th among 54 individuals, classmate Tyler Scott fired back-to-back 78s to finish in a tie for 29th overall. The remainder of Wooster’s team consisted of freshman Andy Van Horn, who tied for 41st (79-81), and juniors Chris Billow and Michael Tilden, who came in a tie for 44th with matching rounds of 84 and 78.

Next on the Scots’ fall schedule is the Mt. Union College Fall Invitational this coming Sunday and Monday (Sept. 28-29).
