Tilden Takes Individual Medalist Honors at Weather-Shortened Kenyon Cup
Michael Tilden became the second College of Wooster golfer in as many years to earn medalist honors at a weather-shortened event, as his 71 was the low round of Saturdays (April 3) Kenyon Cup Invitational. Sundays scheduled 18 holes were cancelled due to snow at Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio. Tilden joins classmate Tyler Scott, who carded a 74 at the rain-shortened Otter Fall Invitational on Sept. 28, 2002, as Woosters individual winners during the past two seasons. The juniors one-under 71 helped pave the way for a second-place team finish for the Scots, as they totaled 301 on the par-72, 6946-yard course. Denison University (297) narrowly beat out Wooster for the title in the 10-team field, while Wittenberg University (305) followed closely in third-place. Sophomore Brandon Tylka gave the Scots a nice 1-2 punch, as his 72 tied one other player for runner-up honors in the individual standings, while also scoring for Wooster were juniors Joe Punturi and Paul Hiller with a 78 and 80, respectively. Four other Scots competed on Saturday, three as individuals. In the regular lineup was freshman Andy Van Horn, who had a season-high 84, while junior Chris Billow and freshman Mark Mellott each shot 79 and sophomore Mike Becker turned in an 87. Next for Wooster is the Denison Invitational this Friday and Saturday (April 9-10) at the Granville Golf Club.
