Despite losing one of its scores on day two due to a disqualification, Otterbein College squeezed past Ohio Wesleyan University by one stroke for its fourth-straight Parlor Restaurant/Wooster Invitational title this weekend (April 19-20) at the Wooster Country Club. Otterbein owned a commanding nine-shot advantage after day one with its 294 but an improper scorecard took away a 74, and it finished with a 316 on Saturday for a 610, while Ohio Wesleyan ended up at 303-308=611. Not far behind was Denison University (307-306=613), as well as Muskingum College (312-308=620) and host College of Wooster (311-311=622). Wooster edged out Baldwin-Wallace College (309-317=626), DePauw University (308-319=627), and Wittenberg University (318-311=629) for fifth, while tying for ninth were John Carroll University (318-317=635) and Mt. Union College (311-324=635). Rounding out the competitors were Hope College (315-321=636), Wabash College (322-346=668), Heidelberg College (333-351=684), Kenyon College (343-357=700), and Oberlin College (372-364=736). The Scots' strong finish came via an individual runner-up showing from Matt Elliott, who used the home course to his advantage, firing a 76-71=147. That was three strokes behind individual medalist Ryan Dorff of Otterbein, who carded an even par 71-73=144. Also for Wooster, Tyler Scott shot consistent scores of 79-79=158 to tie for 23rd overall, while tying with each other in 28th with matching rounds were Jon Pintado (78-81=159) and Joe Punturi (78-81=159). Michael Tilden was the Scots' other starter and he turned in 81-80=161 to tie for 34th. Wooster entered three players to score individually at its own event as well. Chris Billow tied for 56th (81-89=170), while Jordan Roeschlaub and Ryan Flynn both withdrew on day two after opening rounds of 85 and 90, respectively. The Scots head right back into action on Sunday (April 21), as they travel to New Albany, Ohio, for an event hosted by Capital University at the New Albany Links Course. | ||
