Wooster's "B" Team Participates at Urbana Invitational

In its fourth fall tournament of the 2001-02 season, College of Wooster golf coach Rich Danch sent five of his players to compete as individuals at the Urbana University Invitational on Oct. 5-6, which was held at the par-72, 6400-yard Woodland Golf Course in Cable, Ohio.

Since Wooster did not compete as a team, it did not have a place in the final standings.

The Scots' top individual was freshman Paul Hiller (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township), who turned in rounds of 86-81=167 in his first collegiate experience. Classmate Chris Billow (Tallmadge, Ohio / Tallmadge) was not far behind with an 85-85=170, which also marked his first collegiate score.

Joe Punturi (Elizabeth, Pa. / Elizabeth Forward), another Wooster freshman, rebounded from a tough day one and scored 92-81=173, while rounding out the Scots' competitors were freshmen Brian Hunt (Norwich, Vt. / Hanover) and Adam Smith (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax). Smith shot 87-88=175, followed closely by Hunt, who entered the clubhouse with 84-92=176.

The overall individual finishes in the field were not available at the time of this release.

The Scots wrap up their fall season on Oct. 12-13, at the Powerade Fall Collegiate Invitational at River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio.
