In its second event of the spring, The College of Wooster golf team finished eighth out of 12 at the Muskingum College Spring Invitational. The two-day event (March 29-30) was held in Zanesville, Ohio, at the par-70, 6,508-yard Eaglesticks Golf Course. As a squad, Wooster fired a 313 on day one but slipped to 317 on Saturday for a 630 total, while Ohio Wesleyan University beat host Muskingum in a playoff after originally tying for first-place at 592. Right behind the top-two were Otterbein College (597) and Denison University (599), followed by DePauw University (607), Baldwin-Wallace (622), Mt. Union College (629), and the Scots. Wooster defeated Wittenberg University (634), Capital University (645), Kenyon College (661), and Ohio Northern University (668). The Scots' top individual was junior Matt Elliott, who rebounded from an 80 on Friday and turned in a second score of 73 for a 153 total and tie for 18th-place. Medalist honors went to the Fighting Muskies' Ryan Lescalleet, who carded a 65-71=136. Backing up Elliott for Wooster was freshman Joe Punturi, who had consistent rounds of 75-79=154 to come in 21st. Next was junior Jon Pintado, who tied for 35th (75-83=158), while the rest of the Scot contingent consisted of freshmen Michael Tilden in 55th (83-82=165) and Tyler Scott in 62nd (87-85=172). Wooster will try and rebound next weekend (April 6-7) at the annual Kenyon College Cup Invitational. |
