The College of Wooster golf team wrapped up its 2001 campaign this
weekend (April 27-28) with a fifth-place finish among an eight-team field
at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Hiram College
at Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville, Ohio.
As a team, Wooster shot similar rounds of 332 and 335 on Friday and
Saturday, respectively, for a total of 667 in the two-day, 36-hole event.
Outdistancing the Scots were team champion Allegheny College
(307-314=621), followed by runner-up Ohio Wesleyan University
(312-318=630), and Denison University (321-324=645) and Wittenberg
University (329-328=657) in third- and fourth-place.
Behind Wooster were Wabash College (340-332=672), Kenyon College

Individually, Nick Balcken wrapped up his career with the Scots by
receiving all-conference honors for the third year. This time, the senior
earned second-team recognition after firing 76-83=159, which put him in a
tie for eighth in the field of 40 linksters.
Next for Wooster was sophomore Matt Eilliott, who came in a tie for
18th with a pair of 84s.
Completing the Scots' group were classmates Ryan Flynn, who carded
88-86-174 for a tie for 26th, Jon Pintado, who also totaled a 174 coming on
scores of 84 and 90, and Graham Binder, who entered the clubhouse with
94-82=176, putting him alone in 29th-place.
