Golfers Turn in Best Performance of the Spring

A pair of top-10 finishes by senior Nick Balcken and sophomore Matt
Elliott propelled The College of Wooster golf team to a fourth-place finish
at the 15-team Kenyon College Cup Invitational this weekend (April 7-8),
marking Wooster's best showing of the 2000-01 season.
As a team, the Scots fired 319-312=631, only finishing behind
Allegheny College (306-302=608), Baldwin-Wallace College (308-306=614), and
Muskingum College (309-307=616).
Wooster was able to edge out Walsh University (317-315=632), Mt.
Union College (332-305=637), Heidelberg College (319-319=638), Marietta
College (325-315=640), and Denison University (337-303=642).
Rounding out the competitors were Capital University (335-316=651),
Wittenberg University (331-321=652), John Carroll University (330-323=653),
host Kenyon (357-340=697), Case Western Reserve University (378-348=726),
and Hiram College (396-394=790).
Elliott tied for third with scores of 78-73=151, highlighted by an
eagle on the fourth hole during Sunday's competition, while Balcken tied
for seventh just one shot behind Elliott with rounds of 74-78=152.
Also individually for Wooster, sophomore Jon Pintado tied for 33rd
after carding scores of 83-79=162, sophomore Ryan Flynn shot 84-82=166,
good enough for a tie for 46th, and sophomore Graham Binder came in a tie
for 62nd following rounds of 86-88=174.
The Scots return to action this Friday and Saturday (April 13-14),
when they will be part of Denison's annual Spring Classic Invitational at
Granville Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.
