A pair of top-10 finishes by senior Nick Balcken and sophomore Matt Elliott propelled The College of Wooster golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 15-team Kenyon College Cup Invitational this weekend (April 7-8), marking Wooster's best showing of the 2000-01 season.

As a team, the Scots fired 319-312=631, only finishing behind Allegheny College (306-302=608), Baldwin-Wallace College (308-306=614), and Muskingum College (309-307=616).

Wooster was able to edge out Walsh University (317-315=632), Mt. Union College (332-305=637), Heidelberg College (319-319=638), Marietta College (325-315=640), and Denison University (337-303=642).

Rounding out the competitors were Capital University (335-316=651), Wittenberg University (331-321=652), John Carroll University (330-323=653), host Kenyon (357-340=697), Case Western Reserve University (378-348=726), and Hiram College (396-394=790).

Elliott tied for third with scores of 78-73=151, highlighted by an eagle on the fourth hole during Sunday's competition, while Balcken tied for seventh just one shot behind Elliott with rounds of 74-78=152.

Also individually for Wooster, sophomore Jon Pintado tied for 33rd after carding scores of 83-79=162, sophomore Ryan Flynn shot 84-82=166, good enough for a tie for 46th, and sophomore Graham Binder came in a tie for 62nd following rounds of 86-88=174.

The Scots return to action this Friday and Saturday (April 13-14), when they will be part of Denison's annual Spring Classic Invitational at Granville Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.
