Golf Finishes Third of Four at B-W Fall Invite
The College of Wooster golf team's fall schedule came to a close
this past weekend, as Wooster finished third in a four-team field at the
Baldwin-Wallace College Fall Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 15) at Stonewater
Golf Club in Highland Heights, Ohio.
As a team, the Scots fired a 333 on the 6,624-yard, par-71 course,
finishing 23 shots behind champion Mt. Union College (310) and 17 shots in
back of host Baldwin-Wallace (316). Rounding out the field was Capital
University, which carded a 349.
Senior and two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree
Nick Balcken led Wooster and finished in a tie for fourth in the 24-golfer
field by shooting a 78. Other scorers for the Scots included junior Dean
Pasalis, sophomore Ryan Flynn, and sophomore Matt Elliott, who shot 84, 85,
and 86, respectively. In addition, Jon Pintado, another sophomore, scored a
91 on the day.
"I was disappointed that we didn't take advantage of really docile
course conditions," commented Wooster head coach Rich Danch. "The greens
were soft, there was no wind present, and the fairways were very generous.
Although it is a tough golf course in general, we didn't perform to the
level where we need to be at in order to be competitive in this district,
so we hope to improve on it."
Wooster will continue its 2000-01 season on the spring break trip
next March.
