The College of Wooster golf team gets into its regular weekly tournament schedule this Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 1, with the Kenyon Cup Invitational, hosted by fellow North Coast Athletic Conference school Kenyon College. The annual event will be held once again at the par-72, 6,964-yard Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio. The Fighting Scots have faired very well recently at the Kenyon Cup Invitational, finishing among the top-three four years running – tied for third of 12 (2006), second of 12 (2005), second of 10 (2004), and second of 15 (2003).

Spring Break Recap: Wooster competed in one event during its annual southern swing, kicking off the spring season with a seventh-place showing, despite playing without its No. 1 player at the Grenelefe Invitational, hosted by Webber International University in Haines City, Fla., March 16-17.
While Andy Van Horn (Loudonville, Ohio / Loudonville) was competing at the NCAA Div. III Tournament “Final Four” as a member of the Fighting Scots men’s basketball team, his golf teammates Pat Lynch (Naperville, Ill. / Marmion Academy) and Matt Mellott (Baltimore, Md. / Friends School) stepped up with top-30 individual performances at a tourney, which featured several programs from NAIA institutions. Lynch, a junior, tied for 22nd among the field of 66 via consistent scores of 80 and 81 at the par-72, 6,802-yard course, while Mellott, a senior, was one stroke back with a total of 162, keyed by Saturday’s round of 76.
Also scoring each day for Wooster was junior Erik Shoger (Cleveland Hts., Ohio / Cleveland Heights), who tied for 36th overall (78-87). On Friday, sophomore Sean Glaser (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) contributed to the Scots’ team score with an 82 and freshman Tim Sullivan (Bethel Park, Pa. / Seton-LaSalle) did so Saturday with an 87, while they finished in ties for 44th (171) and 57th (181), respectively.
