Anne Leigh’s Career-High 15 Saves Not Enough at Witt
Despite outshooting Wittenberg University 12-10 in the second half following a scoreless first half, The College of Wooster dropped a 2-0 decision to its North Coast Athletic Conference rivals on the field hockey pitch Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio. After firing off 13 shots in the opening 35 minutes to no avail, Wittenberg (1-4, 1-2 NCAC) was able to sneak one past the outstretched arm and stick of Wooster goalie Anne Leigh 3:44 into the second half. The Tigers padded their lead midway through the stanza to help put the game away. Leigh ended up matching her career high with 15 saves, while raising her season save percentage to .838. The junior and three-year starter also made 15 saves twice during her freshman season. Overall, the Tigers ended up with a 23-17 advantage in shots and 15-8 in penalty corners, while their ‘keeper, Nicole Irvin, tallied 10 saves in the shutout. Next, the Scots (1-5, 1-2 NCAC) look to get on track at Ohio Wesleyan University (4-1, 3-0 NCAC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. |
