Bugler’s Late Goals Lead Scots Past OWU 2-0
The College of Wooster field hockey team got its season back on track Saturday afternoon against league foe Ohio Wesleyan University, behind two late goals by senior Katelin Bugler. The Fighting Scots won the game 2-0 going away to improve their overall record to 2-5 and even their North Coast Athletic Conference slate at 2-2, while the Battling Bishops fell to 4-3, 3-2 NCAC. Wooster dominated the first half offensively, firing off 11 shots to the hosts four, and taking three more penalty corners (7-4). But after 35 minutes of play, the score remained deadlocked at zero. In the second half, Ohio Wesleyan equaled the Scots with 10 looks at the goal, but junior 'keeper Anne Leigh held firm with four saves. Wooster, meanwhile, found the offensive touch thanks to Bugler. With just over six minutes remaining in the game, Bugler took a cross from Anlyn Addis and slapped it into the left side of the box for the game-winning goal. She added some insurance not even two minutes later, capitalizing on a free hit from the right wing with 4:47 left for her second score of the game. Bugler's scores were her first two of the season, while Addis' helper was her first. Leigh made all her saves in the second half to record her second shutout this fall. Wooster continues play this week against conference rival Denison University (3-6, 2-2 NCAC) on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m. on Cindy Barr Field. |
