Anne Leigh picked up where she left off last year, as The College of Wooster’s sophomore goalie made 13 saves during a 1-0 season-opening overtime shutout of host Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday night (Sept. 1) in Washington, Pa.

Leigh, the 2003 North Coast Athletic Conference leader in save percentage (.858), kept the upstart Presidents at bay throughout the non-league affair, including stopping three shots in the overtime.

One of Leigh’s defenders, Kelley Hubbell, made the decisive score 8:43 into the first extra session. It marked the senior’s seventh career goal, and providing an assist was sophomore Katy Baron.

Wooster had routed Washington & Jefferson 5-0 in 2002 and 11-0 in 2003, but it appears the third-year varsity program has taken some strides, as the Presidents outshot their visitors 18-12.

Heather Browne tallied six saves in the losing effort.

The Scots will continue their opening road trip with a pair of neutral-site match-ups this weekend in Danville, Ky., where it will face-off against the University of the South and Rhodes College on Saturday (Sept. 4) and Sunday (Sept. 5), respectively.
