Kenyon College converted a penalty corner midway through the second
half of Saturdays (Sept. 11) North Coast Athletic Conference
opener, and the Ladies made that goal hold up as they upended host
College of Wooster 2-1 at Cindy Barr Memorial Field.
It marked Kenyons first victory in the teams series
since 1997 a stretch of 12 games.
Wooster (2-2, 0-1 NCAC) had struck first, just 7:10 into the match,
when Angela Arnold drove home her second goal of the season on a
penalty corner. She was assisted by Kelley Hubbell.
The Scots controlled play for most of the opening half, outshooting
Kenyon 11-5. However, the Ladies evened things up right before halftime
via a goal by Julia Sivon at the :45 mark, and the second half was
a different story. Kenyon carried over the momentum and held a 7-3
shot advantage over Wooster.
The decisive score came on a Maggie Hill penalty-corner goal.
Despite the loss, Anne Leigh was solid in goal again for the Scots,
making 10 saves, which boosted her season save percentage to .907.
The Ladies Kimberly Brown stopped seven shots.
Wooster will look to rebound Sunday afternoon (Sept. 12), when
it hosts Centre College in a non-conference tilt at 1 p.m.
