The College of Wooster’s field hockey team claimed their first conference victory of the season with a 5-0 win over Earlham College today at Cindy Barr Field in North Coast Athletic Conference action. The Scots improve their record to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Wooster’s offense dominated the game, out-shooting the Quakers 26-3 on the day. The Scots claimed the early lead when senior Angela Arnold registered her third assist of the season by finding Katy Baron on a cross eight minutes into the game. The score was Baron’s first of the season. Wooster added another goal before the end of the first half as it was Baron passing to Lindsay Tingley for her second goal of the season with 2:26 to go.

The Scots turned the offense up a notch in the second half, attacking Earlham’s goal for 16 shots and 12 penalty corners. Arnold continued her strong play, recording her team-leading fourth goal of the season from a pass by junior Kelley Hubbell. It was the third straight game Arnold scored a goal, and fifth straight with at least one point. Hubbell added another assist, her fourth of the season, on Tingley’s second score of the game via a penalty corner at 19:34. Wooster would add another goal with 5:30 left when junior Lindsey Headman recorded her first career goal off an assist by Ashley Arnold.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anne Leigh was rarely tested on the day, facing just three shots and making three saves.

The Scots are next in action Tuesday, Sept. 21, when they travel to Oberlin College for a NCAC match up beginning at 4:30.
