Kelley Hubbell scored with 5:41 left in the first overtime to give The College of Wooster a 1-0 victory against visiting Earlham College on Sunday (Sept. 15) in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey play.
Wooster, the defending NCAC champions, improve to 2-0 in the league and 3-1 overall, while Earlham, which appears to be much-improved over its last-place finish a year ago, slips to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
For Hubbell, a sophomore defender, it was just her second career goal, but her second in as many games. She also accounted for the game-winner in Wednesday's 5-0 blanking of Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Scots had one golden scoring opportunity during regulation turned away, as Quaker goalkeeper Catherine Chow stopped a penalty stroke late in the first half.
Overall, Wooster completely outshot (17-3) and outcornered (16-2) Earlham.
In goal for the Scots, sophomore Beth Skelton only needed to tally two saves to register the team's second-straight shutout, while Chow ended up with 14 stops on the afternoon.
Wooster continues its early season NCAC schedule this Thursday (Sept. 19), with a 4:30 match at Kenyon College (2-2, 0-2 NCAC).
