Field Hockey Knocks Off Ohio Wesleyan


Miriam Esber scored the first goal in Wooster's 2-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan.
The College of Wooster's field hockey team continued its successful march through the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 2-1 win over a strong Ohio Wesleyan squad Saturday at Wooster.

The Scots, which improved to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC, scored both of its goals in the first half, and made them stand up.

Wooster got on the board first, as sophomore Miriam Esber scored with an assist from sophomore Beth Todd at the 29:12 mark of the first half.

The Bishops quickly responded, as Lisa Payfer scored off of a pass from Tricia Taylor to knot the score at 1-1 with 24:47 remaining in the first half.

The goal that proved to be the difference in the outcame came with 6:05 left in the first half, when sophomore Emily White scored unassisted.

Senior Melissa Goodwin and the Wooster defense made the score hold up in the second half, as the Bishops were unable to tally the tying goal. Goodwin finished the game with nine saves. Statistically, Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster 27-21.
