After starting the year with three games on the road, The College of Wooster field hockey team welcomes this week with two home contests, both of the North Coast Athletic Conference variety, on the slate. On Wednesday, Sept. 12, the Fighting Scots, who saw their 17-game winning streak in conference games (regular season only) snapped in their most recent outing, will be making their 2007 home debut against Denison University (1-3, 0-0 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m. Wooster has won its last eight meetings with Denison, although five of them have been one-goal decisions, to make the all-time series nearly even (33-34-1). The Scots are also going to host Kenyon College (2-2, 1-0 NCAC), the preseason favorite to win the league, on Saturday morning, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. Wooster owns a commanding advantage over the Ladies historically (43-11-5), however, it was Kenyon that upended the Scots 2-1 in the 2006 NCAC Tournament championship game.

Last Week: In its lone match, Wooster lost the conference opener to slip to 1-2 overall.

On Sept. 8, the Scots’ 17-game winning steak in conference games (regular season only) came to an end, as host Ohio Wesleyan University pulled out a 2-0 victory. Wooster’s streak, which began on Oct. 8, 2005, was just five short of the NCAC record, held by none other than Ohio Wesleyan’s 1988-1990 teams. The Battling Bishops scored right before the halftime break and sealed the outcome on another goal with 7:24 remaining. Scot goalie Izzy Maffetone (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) made four saves in the setback and received help from back Kate Persing (Canton, Conn. / Kimball Union Academy – N.H.), as the senior came up with a defensive save herself.
