The College of Wooster field hockey team will be in search of its fourth win in five outings this Saturday, Sept. 16, but more importantly, the Fighting Scots are seeking their second league victory in as many tries when they travel to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University (1-1, 1-0 NCAC) for a 9 a.m. match-up. Wooster holds a 36-20-5 lead in the all-time series between the two, including a pair of shutout wins in 2005 (2-0 at Ohio Wesleyan, 1-0 at Wooster). Also this weekend, the Scots continue on the road to DePauw University (0-2) for a game on Sunday, Sept. 17, at noon. Historically, Wooster has a commanding advantage against DePauw (14-3), but the Tigers prevailed 4-0 in the 2005 meeting.

Last Week: The Scots won both of their scheduled contests, improving their record to 3-1. Noteworthy, Wooster has recorded shutouts in all three of its wins thus far.
On Sept. 9, the Scots won their first NCAC tilt of the season 4-0 at Earlham College, behind two goals by Brittany Montgomery (Glens Falls, N.Y. / Glens Falls). Wooster?s initial score came eight minutes into the action, when Gina Crough (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) converted a penalty stroke into a goal. Amanda Artman (Shaker Hts., Ohio / Shaker Heights) scored an unassisted tally in the 18th minute to extend the Scot lead to 2-0. The second half was all Montgomery, as she netted both of her goals early on and less than a minute apart, and Wooster cruised onto victory. Katy Baron (River Forest, Ill., / Oak Park & River Forest) assisted on the first Montgomery goal, while Anlyn Addis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Pioneer) picked up her third assist of the season on Montgomery's second. Defensively, Anne Leigh (Englewood, Colo. / Cherry Creek) recorded five saves for the shutout.
On Sept. 10, the Scots returned home and blanked visiting Transylvania University 3-0. Again, the dynamic freshmen duo of Artman and Montgomery led the way, teaming up to net all three of Wooster's tallies. Montgomery lit up the scoreboard first when she slapped in an Artman pass just five minutes into the action, for her fifth goal of the year. The rest of the half neither team could find the net, with the Scots taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime. The second half belonged to Artman, as she netted an unassisted goal 30 seconds into the half. Two minutes later, Crough fed Artman the ball, who responded with her second goal of the game and fifth of the season, giving Wooster all the offensive punch it would need. Defensively, Leigh picked up her third shutout of the season, tallying four saves in the effort.
