The College of Wooster field hockey team looks to build upon its five-game winning streak when it travels on the road twice this week. First, the Fighting Scots will be in western Pennsylvania Tuesday night, Oct. 10, to face Washington & Jefferson College (8-3) at 7 p.m. The game will mark the fifth time the two squads have met, with Wooster winning the previous four, including a 7-0 blowout in 2005. However, the Presidents appear to be much improved, already with three victories over teams they lost to last season. On Saturday, Oct. 14, it?s back to North Coast Athletic Conference play for the Scots, as they head to Gambier, Ohio, to take on third-place Kenyon College (9-3, 4-3 NCAC) at 11 a.m. Wooster edged Kenyon 1-0 in Wooster earlier this year (Sept. 23), which was part of a three-game losing streak for the Ladies. They have since bounced back with two-straight wins heading into this week.
Last Week: It was a strange week for the Scots, as their first scheduled
game was suspended in mid-action and then they routed their top rival 5-0
in what was expected to be a typically close game between the two to improve
to 9-2 overall and strengthen their hold on first-place in the NCAC (7-0).
On Oct. 4, Wooster was at Denison University and leading the Big Red 2-1 with 13 minutes left in the second half, at which point the contest was suspended due to strong storms in the Columbus area. A make-up date has not been announced yet.
On Oct. 7, the Scots trounced rival Wittenberg University 5-0 in a battle
of the top-two teams in the conference standings at Cindy Barr Field. Senior
forward Anlyn Addis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) lit up the scoreboard
four times in the first half, marking the first four-goal game by a Wooster
player in nearly 15 years, with the last to accomplish that feat being Carissa
Conner versus Kenyon on Oct. 9, 1991. Addis began her personal scoring barrage
just three minutes into the action, converting a penalty corner. Less than
one minute later, she took an Amanda Artman (Shaker Hts., Ohio /
Shaker Heights) pass and slid it past the Wittenberg ??keeper to put the
Scots up two. Addis again rattled the cage at the 25:25 mark, capitalizing
on a penaly corner for the second time, with Artman given credit for the
assist. Addis would cap her offensive outburst about 10 minutes later on
yet another Artman assist off a penalty corner, giving her four goals over
a 20:11 stretch and a 4-0 lead for Wooster at the half. The second half
was quiet offensively, as Katy Baron (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park
& River Forest) added a final unassisted goal for the Scots with just 18
seconds remaining. While Wooster was blistering the Tigers? defense, Anne
Leigh (Englewood, Colo. / Cherry Creek) made four saves on the other
end in picking up shutout No. 7 of the season. |
