The College of Wooster field hockey team has a chance to clinch at least a share of its fifth North Coast Athletic Conference championship this Wednesday, Oct. 18, and the Fighting Scots will then hit the road for a two-game weekend trip. Wooster hosts Ohio Wesleyan University (4-6, 3-5 NCAC), which enters the week in a tie for fourth-place in the league standings, on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. If the Scots win, they?ll clinch a share of the 2006 NCAC crown with two conference games still remaining. Wooster was co-champions in the NCAC in 1984 and 1986, tri-champs in 2003, and won its lone outright title in 2001. Earlier this season (Sept. 16), the Scots edged the Battling Bishops 1-0 in overtime. This weekend, Oct. 21-22, Wooster will first play at No. 14 ranked Juniata College (13-1) Saturday at 11 a.m. The two squads also met last year, with the Eagles triumphing 2-1 in overtime at Wooster. On Sunday, the Scots will be in Washington, D.C., to take on Catholic University (8-6), starting at 11 a.m.

Last Week: Wooster was 2-1 last week with both of its wins coming over NCAC opponents, as the Scots improved to 11-3 overall, including a perfect 9-0 in conference play.
On Oct. 10, host Washington & Jefferson College scored 5:34 into overtime, ending Wooster?s five-game winning streak, as the Presidents prevailed 2-1 during non-league action. The Scots connected on their first shot, tying the match 1-1 via an Amanda Artman (Shaker Hts., Ohio / Shaker Heights) goal. It remained 1-1 through the rest of regulation, despite several shots being fired off at both ends of the field. Anne Leigh (Englewood Colo. / Cherry Creek) made nine saves in goal for Wooster. On
Oct. 12, the Scots completed a 2-1 NCAC victory at Denison University. The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 4, but play was suspended that day, with Wooster leading 2-1 with 13:21 remaining in regulation. The Scots scored their goals just 3:42 apart midway through the first half to overcome an early deficit. Brittany Montgomery (Glens Falls, N.Y. / Glens Falls) tied the game via her 13th goal, assisted by Katy Baron (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park & River Forest) and followed shortly thereafter by Wooster converting one of its seven penalty corners as Anlyn Addis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Pioneer) connected off a feed from Artman. Leigh started in goal and made five saves over the first 56:39, while Carly Herman (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) played the final 13:21 and secured one save to preserve the win in her most significant action to date.
On Oct. 14, the Scots got past Kenyon College 2-1 in overtime in Gambier, Ohio. Kenyon struck first, sliding a shot past Leigh 26:48 into the game, but Wooster turned things around in the second half, with Miranda Leickly (Gahanna, Ohio / Columbus Academy) rattling the cage at the 47:15 mark. It marked Leickly?s first goal of the season and third of her career. Artman provided the game-winner, converting a penalty corner nearly 12 minutes into the first extra session for her 14th goal this fall. Defensively, Leigh recorded 10 saves on the day.
