Scot Field Hockey Picked as NCAC Favorites

WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster field hockey team is a near unanimous favorite to win the 2003 North Coast Athletic Conference championship, announced the league office on Monday after balloting by the seven head coaches.

Wooster, which went 14-5 overall last season and finished runner-up in the NCAC (9-3), received six first-place votes and 48 of a possible 49 points in the preseason vote. Wittenberg University, the defending champs, got the other first-place nod and was picked second with 41 points.

Denison University also is expected to be in the running, earning 37 points, while completing the poll were Oberlin College (27), Earlham College (19), Kenyon College (16), and Ohio Wesleyan University (8).

The Scots, who have nine of 11 starters back and last won the NCAC title in 2001, kickoff the year with a weekend trip (Aug. 30-31) to the Washington, D.C. area, where they will play Virginia Wesleyan College and St. Mary’s (Md.) College.
