Wooster Dominates Jim Bean Classic

The College of Wooster cross country team dominated their own Jim Bean
Classic Friday afternoon, with both the men’s and women’s
squads taking home first-place honors. The men’s team earned a total
of 15 points in the four-team field, clearly ahead of second-place Hiram
(67), along with Lake Erie (71) and Myers (87). The women scored a total
of 18 points in the field of three, also clearly ahead of Hiram (47) and
Lake Erie (72).
Individual for the men, Dave Thomas and Rudy Gilman crossed
the line in the 5K race with identical times of 17:06, sharing first-place.
Ironically, Zane Shelter and Mark DeWine both finished with
a time of 17:27, to earn a third-place tie. Rounding out the top-5 was
Jeff Jacobs, clocking in at 17:34. In addition to sweeping the top-5
places in the meet, the Scots also finished in every place in the top-20,
except for the 19th position.
On the women’s side, Ashley Zervos won the 5K, crossing the
line in 20:31, followed closely by Nikki Calderone’s second-place
finish of 20:32. Rounding out the Scots’ top scorers was Caitlin
O’Riordan (21:16), Cara Stoddard (21:22) and Sara Lloyd
(21:25), who finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively. All in all, Wooster
placed a total of 12 runners in the top-20.
The Scot harriers will be back in action again next Friday, Oct. 18, when
they host the Wooster Relays.
