Marietta Wins Regional Title, Advancing to Eight-Team NCAA Div.
III Championship Series

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – Marietta College won its 20th regional championship,
this time as the No. 4 seed, as it came back from an early 2-0 deficit
and then cruised past Ohio Wesleyan University 15-4, with 14 of the Pioneers’
runs being scored between the second and fifth innings. The six-team NCAA
Div. III Regional Tournament at Mills Field was pushed to the maximum
11 games, as the fifth-seeded Battling Bishops forced a winner-take-all
second game Saturday, defeating Marietta 7-3 earlier.
The Pioneers, the defending national champs, advance to Grand Chute,
Wis., where they will be one of eight teams competing for the 2007 NCAA
Div. III championship.
